About 8% of the population is Catholic, but they seem to be a fairly vociferous 8%. There are lots of news reports about what the nuns are doing in the mountain villages (last I read they had persuaded villagers to bury their dead instead of wrapping them in an old rug, dumping them into distant valleys, then running away in case the spirit follows them home) and there are also quite a few of these Christian style statues dotted around.
